SISTER TESTIMONIALS

frani On our chapter’s commitment to dei…

As VP of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, I discovered that true leadership means creating spaces where every sister can thrive. When sisters shared their family recipes at our multicultural potluck, I saw how celebrating our differences makes our bonds stronger. Hosting trailblazers like Judge Wendy Li showed our chapter that success comes in many forms, while being recognized by SDT National for my role as Miss Ecuador NY taught me to lead by example. Each initiative - from cultural awareness workshops to community service at the food bank - has shaped me into a leader who understands that our unique perspectives are our greatest strength. SDT didn't just give me a leadership title - it gave me the platform to create meaningful change and inspire others to embrace their authentic selves.

madison On returning to campus after going abroad…

As an adventurous and outgoing person—two traits shared by so many SDT sisters—I knew I wanted to study abroad in college. I had the most amazing time in Berlin over spring 2024 (highly recommend making it there at some point in your life, it’s such a special city!). I was so grateful to get to travel all over Europe, and even ran into other Sig Delts abroad along the way!

I definitely missed our sisterhood while I was abroad but felt so welcomed as soon as I came back to Columbia. I’m a little biased but my lineage is the absolute best and made my return to campus in the fall that much smoother—we kept up with our usual weekly hangouts, this time with my two new grandlittles who joined SDT while I was in Berlin!

Ellie on being a student athlete in sdt…

Joining SDT gave me another community on campus. As an athlete, I love my team and the bonds I created with my teammates, but I wanted to get more involved in the other aspects of campus life. Joining the chapter immediately opened my circle to many more people I am beyond lucky to have met and grown close to. My lineage has become my second family, and I always look forward to grabbing meals and catching up on our busy lives. The lifelong bonds I have created have been a special part of my time in the chapter, and I am beyond grateful to my siSDTers for welcoming me into the chapter with open arms and becoming lifelong friends!

eliana on the sisterhood she’s found…

Growing up with an older sister, I have experienced the magic and closeness of sisterhood for my whole life. When I joined SDT, I quickly realized that sisterhood extends far beyond family bonds—it’s about shared moments, both big and small. Through playing spikeball, creating bouquets, or gathering for weekly chapter meetings, every little event brings me that feeling of connection. Spending time with my lineage – whether it’s getting ready for formal, weekly dinners, or even just doing homework together – has shown me how deeply meaningful those moments can be. True sisterhood can often be hard to put into words, but I can confidently say that SDT has fostered a sisterhood that feels just as special as the one I grew up with.

emmy on joining as a sophomore…

Joining SDT as a sophomore transfer student was the best decision I have made at Columbia so far. SDT extended the warmest welcome to me — be that older sisters, sophomores in the pledge class above me, or girls in my member class. SDT gave me a space at Columbia that I could be authentically myself and find deep, meaningful friendships: it is a group of girls looking to connect on every level. My sisters are intelligent, poised, curious, hilarious, accepting, and above all kind. My big is truly my best friend in the world and the friends I have found have become family. There was no weirdness in finding my place in SDT, it was as if I had been there all along and it is absolutely where I was meant to be.

sofia on finding her place in leadership…

As a junior studying neuroscience and on the pre med class, I have found it very challenging to gain leadership experiences outside of medical opportunities and research that align with my more creative qualities and interests. Being in SDT since my freshman spring, I was able to become the DEI assistant and since then, I have moved up through leadership roles and am now proudly on the executive board as the VP DEI! I truly value the possibility within this sisterhood to not only hold a position and be responsible, accountable, and proactive, but I value the flexibility and mobility of the chapter and its positions. From being an assistant to being the Health and Wellness Director last academic year, and now the VP DEI, I have learned how to manage my workload and rigorous major with my values in advocacy and community building. Through the opportunities that SDT provides and my aspirations for medicine, I have been able to amplify underrepresented voices, celebrated diverse perspectives, and created a more inclusive community.
